Current trials and novel therapeutic targets for alcoholic hepatitis

Alcoholic hepatitis is a clinical syndrome in which patients present with acute-on-chronic
liver failure and a high risk of short-term mortality. The current treatment of alcoholic hepatitis
is suboptimal. Results recently published from the STOPAH study have improved our
understanding of how best to design clinical trials for this condition. Although emerging data
on liver transplantation for patients with alcoholic hepatitis are encouraging, less than 2% of
